Best React Date Pickers in 2026: 10 Libraries Compared

Short answer. Choose Mantine if you want the broadest free feature set (ranges with presets, multiple dates, date and time, month and year pickers) in one MIT package. Choose MUI X Date Pickers if you build on Material UI and need a segmented field and time zones, knowing that the range picker is a paid Pro feature. Choose react-datepicker if you want a standalone drop-in picker with week, month, quarter and year modes and no design system attached. Choose Chakra UI or HeroUI if you need time zones and a segmented field without paying: both ship them under MIT. Choose CoreUI PRO if your app runs on Bootstrap or CoreUI and you want a range picker with presets, quarter selection and validation feedback that matches the rest of your forms.

How we compared

We compared 10 React date picker libraries in October 2026, using each vendor’s documentation, API reference and npm package (versions are listed in the table). Every cell below has a source URL and a verification date in our research base. A ❌ means the gap is confirmed: either the vendor’s documentation says so, or we tried it in the official public demo in a headless browser on October 28, 2026. When the documentation is silent, or the absence only shows up in type definitions, we write — (no data) instead of ❌. CoreUI publishes this page; CoreUI’s own gaps are marked ❌ from its complete API reference.

The libraries, one by one

MUI X Date Pickers

MUI X Date and Time Pickers (@mui/x-date-pickers 9.16.0) is the most complete free picker for Material UI apps. The MIT package includes DatePicker, DateTimePicker, a static calendar, a segmented DateField (arrow keys change the day, month or year), the timezone prop with IANA zones, week numbers and a mobile variant. The limit: DateRangePicker, range shortcuts and multi-month calendars ship in @mui/x-date-pickers-pro, which requires MUI X Pro ($299 per developer per year, or $657 perpetual). The first day of the week is set through the date library’s locale rather than a prop.

Choose it if you are on Material UI and need single dates and times for free, or Pro is already in the budget.

react-datepicker

react-datepicker 9.1.0 (MIT, maintained by HackerOne) is a drop-in input with a popper calendar. It covers all four period modes (showWeekPicker, showMonthYearPicker, showQuarterYearPicker, showYearPicker), ranges through selectsRange, multiple dates through selectsMultiple, time via showTimeSelect, monthsShown, calendarStartDay and IANA time zones through the optional date-fns-tz dependency. Trade-offs: the docs offer no built-in error style for validation, and the prop table in the docs is incomplete, so the type definitions are the real reference.

Choose it if you want a capable standalone picker that does not bring a design system with it.

React DayPicker

React DayPicker 10.0.2 (MIT; the canonical package name is now @daypicker/react) is a calendar, not a finished input: the docs show how to compose it with your own field and popover. As a calendar it is strong: single, multiple and range modes, numberOfMonths, week numbers, weekStartsOn, dir="rtl", a timeZone prop, and non-Gregorian calendars as add-ons. The docs state plainly that it does not include a built-in time picker, and parsing typed dates is left to your code.

Choose it if you are building a design system and want the calendar logic solved.

Ant Design DatePicker

Ant Design 6.6.8 (MIT) has one of the deepest free pickers: RangePicker, presets for single dates and ranges, multiple dates (since 5.14), showTime, week, month, quarter and year pickers, and an optional mask format that makes the field segmented (we tested it: arrow keys move between segments). Typing a date worked in our test.

Choose it if you already use Ant Design and your users mostly type dates.

Mantine Dates

Mantine 9.7.4 (@mantine/dates, MIT) gives you a family of components: DatePickerInput, an inline DatePicker, DateInput for free typing, DateTimePicker, MonthPicker and YearPicker. Ranges (type="range"), multiple dates, presets, numberOfColumns for months side by side, week numbers and a firstDayOfWeek prop are all free. One limit: the docs state that values are strings that “do not include any timezone-specific information”.

Choose it if you want the broadest free feature set and like Mantine’s styling.

Chakra UI DatePicker

Chakra UI 3.37.0 (MIT) ships a composable DatePicker with selectionMode single, multiple (with maxSelectedDates) or range, presets, numOfMonths, month and year pickers, timeZone, startOfWeek, and locales through @internationalized/date, including non-Gregorian calendars. A separate DateInput provides a segmented field. Limits: the docs build date and time by placing a separate time input next to the picker, and custom day cells require assembling the table yourself.

Choose it if you want free ranges and time zones and are comfortable with a compositional API.

HeroUI DatePicker

HeroUI 3.2.6 (MIT) is built on React Aria, so DatePicker uses a segmented DateField with typed input, granularity down to seconds, ZonedDateTime for time zones and visibleDuration for several months. DateRangePicker is a separate free component. Limits: multiple-date selection exists on the inline Calendar only, the format follows the locale rather than a custom pattern, and Today or Clear buttons are your own code.

Choose it if time zones and a segmented field matter more than a long list of props.

shadcn/ui Date Picker

shadcn/ui is MIT code you copy into your repository. Its Calendar wraps React DayPicker 10 and inherits range and multiple modes, numberOfMonths, week numbers, RTL and timeZone. The date picker itself is a documented recipe (Popover plus Calendar), not a registry component, so typed input, time selection and presets are compositions you maintain.

Choose it if you already use shadcn/ui and want full control of the markup.

PrimeReact DatePicker

PrimeReact 11.2.2 has a capable DatePicker: range and multiple modes (maxDateCount), time with seconds and 12/24-hour format, month and year views, numberOfMonths, week numbers, a Today and Clear button bar, and date templates. What changed is the license (next section). The MIT line continues as 10.9.9 on the v10-stable tag, but this comparison rates 11.x.

Choose it if you qualify for the PrimeUI Community License or already pay for PrimeUI.

CoreUI Date Picker and Date Range Picker

Our own entry. The CoreUI Date Picker and Date Range Picker (@coreui/react-pro 5.29.2) are CoreUI PRO components: $127 per developer, perpetual, 12 months of updates, renewal at the same price. Most libraries above give you a date picker for free, so here is what the license buys. CDateRangePicker has ranges presets and a calendars prop for months side by side. selectionType turns both pickers into day, week, month, quarter or year pickers. timepicker adds time in the same popup. There are Today, Clear, Confirm and Cancel buttons, valid and invalid states with feedback messages, week numbers, firstDayOfWeek, an Intl-based locale, documented RTL with Hebrew and Persian examples, and renderDayCell for custom cells. Typing a date worked in our demo test. For a calendar embedded in the page without a field, the separate CCalendar component (also PRO) offers the same day to year selection, multiple panels, ranges and RTL.

Where CoreUI loses: there is no multiple-date mode, no time zone prop (values are native Date objects in the browser’s zone) and no segmented field.

Choose it if your app is built on Bootstrap or CoreUI and you want date, range and period pickers that look and validate like the rest of your forms. Prices for teams are on the pricing page.

Licensing in 2026: what changed

PrimeReact is no longer MIT. Since 11.0.0-rc.1 (June 28, 2026), primereact is distributed under the PrimeUI License. A license key is required; in our test without a key, the component worked but displayed an “Invalid PrimeUI License” badge. The free Community License applies only to individuals and organizations with fewer than 5 developers, fewer than 10 employees, under $1M revenue and under $3M in outside funding, excluding the public sector and education, renewed yearly. The commercial license is $599 per developer until December 31, 2026 (regular price $799), perpetual with one year of updates, and $399 per developer per year to renew updates; it covers PrimeReact, PrimeVue and PrimeNG. PrimeReact 10 remains the last MIT line.

MUI X keeps DatePicker and DateTimePicker under MIT; only range components are commercial. Chakra UI Pro is a paid set of blocks and templates; the DatePicker itself stays MIT.

FAQ

What is the best free React date picker?

For most apps, Mantine or Ant Design: both are MIT and include ranges, presets, multiple dates and date and time selection. If you need time zones for free, look at Chakra UI or HeroUI.

Which React date picker supports date ranges for free?

react-datepicker (selectsRange), React DayPicker (mode="range"), Ant Design (RangePicker), Mantine (type="range"), Chakra UI, HeroUI (DateRangePicker) and shadcn/ui all include ranges under MIT. MUI X puts DateRangePicker in its paid Pro plan, and CoreUI’s Date Range Picker is part of CoreUI PRO.

Is the MUI X date range picker free?

No. DateRangePicker, DateRangeCalendar and DateTimeRangePicker are in @mui/x-date-pickers-pro, which requires MUI X Pro at $299 per developer per year or $657 perpetual. DatePicker, DateTimePicker and DateCalendar are free under MIT.

Which React date pickers support time zones?

MUI X (timezone), react-datepicker (timeZone with date-fns-tz), React DayPicker and shadcn/ui (timeZone), Chakra UI (timeZone) and HeroUI (ZonedDateTime). Mantine’s docs state that its values carry no time zone information, and CoreUI has no time zone prop.

Is PrimeReact still free?

Only under the PrimeUI Community License limits (fewer than 5 developers, under $1M revenue, among other conditions) for version 11 and later. Larger teams need a commercial license from $599 per developer, or can stay on the MIT-licensed PrimeReact 10.
