Best Angular Multi Select Components in 2026: 8 Libraries Compared

Short answer. Choose ng-select if you want a free multi select that covers almost everything: chips, checkbox options, selection limits, tagging, server-side search, virtualization and selectable groups, all MIT. Choose NG-ZORRO if you want a free multi select with a built-in “+N” overflow tag, a selection limit and virtual scrolling inside a full suite. Choose PrimeNG or Kendo UI if you want select all, checkboxes and overflow summaries built in and you accept a paid or conditional license; note that PrimeNG’s MultiSelect is deprecated in version 22. Choose CoreUI Multi Select (PRO) if your app runs on CoreUI or Bootstrap and you want select all, limits, group selection and a counter mode in one component.

How we compared

We compared 8 Angular multi select libraries in October 2026 using each vendor’s documentation, API reference, published package code and npm release (versions are in the table). A ❌ means the vendor documents the gap or we confirmed it in a demo. When the documentation is silent we write — (no data), which is not a claim that the feature is missing. CoreUI publishes this page; CoreUI’s own ❌ entries come from its API reference and package code.

The libraries, one by one

ng-select

ng-select 24.2.1 (MIT) handles multiple selection with [multiple]="true". Chips have remove buttons, maxSelectedItems caps the selection, [addTag] creates options (also on the server), [typeahead] with [loading] searches the server, [virtualScroll] keeps the DOM small, and [selectableGroup] selects a whole group. Checkbox options are a documented example, and “Select all” and “N more” are templates you add yourself. [closeOnSelect]="false" keeps the list open.

Choose it if you want the most complete free multi select for Angular.

NG-ZORRO Select (multiple)

NG-ZORRO 22.1.2 (MIT) uses nzMode="multiple" or nzMode="tags". Selected values become removable tags, nzMaxTagCount with nzMaxTagPlaceholder collapses the rest into a “+N” tag, nzMaxMultipleCount limits the selection, nzServerSearch loads options from the server and virtual scrolling is built in (the docs demo uses 10,000 options). Selected options are marked with an icon rather than checkboxes.

Choose it if you want a free multi select with an overflow tag and a selection limit.

PrimeNG MultiSelect

PrimeNG MultiSelect 22.1.4 is complete: display="chip", maxSelectedLabels with a “{0} items selected” label, checkboxes, showToggleAll, selectionLimit, filtering, groups, virtual scrolling with lazy loading and a name prop. Creating values is handled by the separate InputTags component. Watch the roadmap: MultiSelect is deprecated in v22 and planned for removal in v24, and its replacement, Select with multiple, builds chips and select all through templates. The license changed too (see below).

Choose it if you qualify for, or pay for, the PrimeUI License and can plan the migration.

Kendo UI MultiSelect

Kendo UI MultiSelect 25.3.0 has checkbox options, a sticky “Select All” item, summaryTagAfter to collapse tags into one summary tag, allowCustom for new values, autoClose to keep the list open, remote data with a loading state, virtualization and tag templates. It requires a paid Kendo UI license.

Choose it if your team already licenses Kendo UI.

Angular Material Select and Chips

Angular Material 22.2.4 (MIT) offers two routes. mat-select multiple shows checkboxes and keeps the panel open. For chips, you combine MatChipGrid, chip input and autocomplete, which also lets users add their own values. The docs show “(+N others)” as custom code in mat-select-trigger, and filtering in the chip route is your code.

Choose it if you build on Material and want free building blocks.

Taiga UI InputChip

Taiga UI 5.30.0 (Apache-2.0) builds multi select from InputChip: chips with remove buttons and a custom template, arbitrary strings with suggestions, checkbox options and a “Select all” button through tuiMultiSelectGroup, which also toggles a whole group. Virtual scrolling is an example built with Angular CDK.

Choose it if you use Taiga UI elsewhere.

Spartan/ng Combobox (multiple)

Spartan/ng (brain 1.8.3, MIT) has a multiple combobox with chips, removable chips, search, async search with a loading state, groups and form examples. Styled code is copied into your project; overflow counters and select all are not covered in its docs.

Choose it if your app follows the shadcn model with Tailwind.

CoreUI Multi Select

Our own entry. CoreUI Multi Select (@coreui/angular-pro 5.7.39) is a CoreUI PRO component: $127 per developer, perpetual, 12 months of updates, renewal at the same price. ng-select gives you nearly the same feature set for free, so here is what PRO adds: tags, counter or text display (selectionType), checkbox options by default, selectAll with an “all” or “filtered” mode and a tri-state style, selectionLimit with a selectionLimitReached event, allowCreateOptions, external search with a loading state, virtualScroller, and optionsGroupsSelectable to select a whole group. It shares styles and validation states with the other CoreUI form controls.

Where CoreUI loses: no template for the chips, no name or hidden input for a plain HTML form, and multiple defaults to false in Angular, so set it explicitly.

Choose it if your app is built on CoreUI or Bootstrap and you want select all, limits and group selection without assembling templates. Team prices are on the pricing page.

What changed in 2026

FAQ

What is the best free Angular multi select?

ng-select. Chips, checkbox options, selection limits, tagging, server-side search, virtualization and selectable groups are all in the MIT package. NG-ZORRO is the free alternative if you want a “+N” overflow tag out of the box.

How do I limit how many options a user can select in Angular?

ng-select has maxSelectedItems, NG-ZORRO nzMaxMultipleCount, PrimeNG MultiSelect selectionLimit and CoreUI Multi Select selectionLimit with a selectionLimitReached event.

Which Angular multi select has a select all option?

PrimeNG (showToggleAll), Kendo UI (selectAll), Taiga UI (tuiMultiSelectGroup) and CoreUI (selectAll, also for filtered results only). In ng-select it is a documented header template you add.

Is PrimeNG MultiSelect deprecated?

Yes. PrimeNG 22 deprecates MultiSelect and plans to remove it in v24. The replacement is Select with multiple, where chips, checkboxes and select all are built with templates.

Can an Angular multi select submit values with a plain HTML form?

PrimeNG MultiSelect has a name prop, and Angular Material’s native <select multiple> variant submits normally. ng-select, NG-ZORRO, Kendo UI and CoreUI Multi Select pass values through Angular forms.
