CoreUI Free Angular Admin Template v5.7.32 - spawn EBADF Fix for ng serve and ng test

We are pleased to announce the release of CoreUI Free Angular Admin Template v5.7.32. This fix release removes preserveSymlinks from angular.json, which made ng serve -o and ng test in watch mode fail with spawn EBADF after the move to Angular 22.2.0, and updates Vitest to 5.0.2.

Speed up your responsive apps and websites with fully-featured, ready-to-use open-source admin panel templates—free to use and built for efficiency.

How to Update

Download the latest source from GitHub releases.

After downloading, install dependencies and start the project:

npm install
npm start

If you are updating an existing customized project, you only need one change from this release to fix watch mode: remove the preserveSymlinks line from the build options in your own angular.json (see Migration Notes). Compare the rest of your local changes with the latest template files before deploying.

What’s New

Watch Mode Fix: spawn EBADF

The "preserveSymlinks": true option was removed from the build options in angular.json.

With @angular/build 22.2.0, which the template uses since v5.7.31, that option makes the watcher follow symlinks and stop excluding node_modules. On macOS the process then holds tens of thousands of open file descriptors, and every child process the CLI starts fails with spawn EBADF:

  • ng serve -o (the template’s npm start) compiles, but the browser never opens.
  • ng test in watch mode runs no tests, because the Vitest workers and the Playwright browser cannot start.
  • In larger workspaces, ng serve or ng build --watch can crash right after the first build with EMFILE: too many open files instead.

ng build and ng test --watch=false were not affected. Read the full explanation in Fixing “Error: spawn EBADF” in Angular 22.2 ng serve and ng test.

Vitest 5.0.2

  • vitest and @vitest/browser-playwright were updated to 5.0.2.

The Angular packages stay on 22.2.0 and the bundled CoreUI packages on 5.7.31 in this release.

Dependency Updates

We have updated key dependencies to their latest compatible versions for CoreUI Free Angular Admin Template v5.7.32:

Development Tools

  • @types/node to: 26.6.3
  • @vitest/browser-playwright to: 5.0.2
  • vitest to: 5.0.2

Migration Notes

Review these points when updating a project created from an earlier version of the template:

  1. Remove "preserveSymlinks": true from the build options in your angular.json, or set it to false, then restart ng serve or ng test. This also fixes EMFILE, so you don’t need to clean dist/ or raise system limits.
  2. Keep the option only if you develop against symlinked packages (npm link, local workspace links). In that case pin @angular/build to 22.1.x, or leave the option out and pass --preserve-symlinks to ng build when you need it (ng serve does not accept that flag).
  3. Install updated dependencies, run your test suite, and verify the build before deploying.
